SEMESTER 1
Community Performances
Woyzeck by Georg Buchner
Directed by Michael Ewans
Stab, stab the fickle she-wolf dead!
Georg Büchner left the 27 short scenes of Woyzeck unfinished on his death in 1837 at the age of 24. Since its first publication in 1871 it has had a profound influence on almost every major form and style of German drama. The play tells the story of a humble soldier, driven mad by a sadistic Doctor’s experiments and by his mistress’s infidelity. Woyzeck is revolutionary in many ways: the first tragedy of low life; the first tragedy in dialect; a drama conceived in short partially related scenes, rather than with a linear plot development; and a play which explores insanity. See this seminal work of modern drama performed by the UoN drama students for four nights only!
18-21 May, 7:30pm
Tickets available at door: $18 or $12 for students.
