Drama Productions: Community
Our outstanding Drama students are collaborating with a number of partners within the community -- including Newcastle Regional Art Gallery, Bikers Against Child Abuse, The Woolstore, Cessnock Seniors Choir and Cessnock West Public School -- for a number of public performances from the foreshore of Lake Macquarie, to the Hunter, to Newcastle CBD. Dramatic Renovations

International Art Student Collaboration
Second and third year students in both Printmedia and Photomedia are at work on a collaborative project with Hong Kong Baptist University. Our students are responding to work from Hong Kong while working in collaboration with a Printmedia student, and vice versa. Read More.

Conservatorium Recording Studio
The creative production studios at the Conservatorium have recently been upgraded, boasting state-of-the-art recording and production equipment. Students have extensive access to this facility as part of their degree. It includes a twenty workstation teaching lab, two isolated recording/production booths, a live performance room, a master control room and a seminar room. Read More

Chamber Choir's Wins In The Sydney Eisteddfod
On the 6th June our award winning Chamber Choir has taken out three first prizes at the the Sydney Eisteddfod. The prize money for the awards won will help fund their upcoming tour of China (see below). Read More.

Conservatorium Community Open Day
Come to the Open Day to watch and take part in a range of activities including concerts, early childhood music, demonstrations, workshops, masterclasses and informations essions for the community music ensemble and tuition programs. Muswellbrook Open Photography Awards
In March 2010 the Muswellbrook Open Photography Award was won by Fine Art (Photomedia) staff member Roger Hanley, with current Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) student Katrina Coleman being Highly Commended for her piece. For more information See Here.
'Hatched 2010': Graduarte Selected For National Show
Recent Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours Class1, 2009) graduate Dermod Kavanagh was selected to represent the University of Newcastle at the prestigious Hatched: 2010: National Graduate Show at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art which opened on the 16th of April 2010. Jean Bogan Prize
The Jean Bogan prizes for piano composition have been established through the generosity of Mr. Laurie Bogan as a memorial to his wife. Jean believed that the piano was an essential medium through which the creators of music talked with those who would listen and understand what was said. Applications are now invited for these prizes. Applications close 31st October 2010. See Here.
Arts Health Symposium
The Arts Health Symposium is a 1-day event featuring papers by academics, RHD students, and arts practitioners. This years focus is on the role of art and the built environment in wellbeing. Australian Youth Ambassadors For Develoment
The Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD) program places skilled young Australian volunteers, aged 18-30, on short-term assignments of between 3-12 months in developing countries throughout the Asia Pacific region. The University of Newcastle is established as an Australian Partner Organisation (APO) for this AusAID funded initiative. For more information See Here.
International Visit to Fine Art
On 4th May 2010 the Fine Art department hosted representatives from the Hong Kong Baptist University. The guests met with staff & students, toured the facilities, and received presentations on the study options offered by the Fine art discipline. See Here.

Newcastle Festival Opera presents "The Threepenny Opera"
The School is proud to support of our talented staff from the Music and Drama disciplines involved in the Newcastle Festival Opera's upcoming production of Brecht's classic "The Threepenny Opera". Performances will run throughout June. For more information See Here.

This exhibition of recent Cultural Gifts acknowledges the benevolence of donors to the University Collection. The Jennie Thomas Travelling Scholarship award for 2010 will be presented on the opening night, Tuesday 29 June. See Here.
Chamber Choir To Compete In Choir Olympics
Our award winning Chamber Choir has been invited to compete this July in the upcoming 6th World Choir Games being held in China. This will be the first time the choir has competed in the international competition and will be accompanied by a three week tour. Read More.

International Award winners Edward Neeman and Stephanie in concert performing duo and fourhand piona works by Barber, Lutoslawski, Milhaud, Schubert & Stravinsky.

Volunteer Ushers: Expressions Of Interest
We are recruiting a pool of volunteers to be trained as ushers for events held within the School. Drama Production: 'AUTOBAHN' by Neil Labute; directed by Kelvin RobertsThis production by the first year students is a sequence of five short plays, all set in the front seat of a car. University of Newcastle graduate Michelle Hungerford has recently had some of her artwork added to the New Hall art collection (Cambridge). Her latest exhibition opens in September at the New Hall Art Collection gallery.

New publication by music academic
Academic Paul McMahon has written a book examining the settings of John Dryden's poem A Song for St Cecilia's Day by Giovanni Draghi and George Frideric Handel. It is due for release in late 2009 though Lambert Academic Publishing.

Much More Than Jingle Bells
Hosted by 1233 ABC's Carol Duncan and underpinned by the award-winning Chamber Choir this year's Christmas At The Con breaks with tradition to bring you an engaging blend of classic and contemporary festive music. Santa will of course make an appearance and hopes to be joined on stage for a sing-a-long with the children. Read More
The concert will feature vocalists, string and flute ensembles, and music theatre in a Christmas cabaret where audience members can join in carol singing with Santa's Not-So-Big Band. A particular highlight willl be the Chamber Choir and friends' performance of "The 12 Days Of Christmas" like you've never heard it before.
