They are sketches from Sokoloff's article on "Aboriginal Prehistory: Interpretation of Artefacts" in Hunter Natural History (Sokoloff 1977), illustrating items located on the Awabakal Nature Reserve near Dudley, and further north at Cape Hawke and Anna Bay. The smooth, worn working edge is clearly evident and is indicative of its use in the past. Therefore this artefact can be inferred to have been a large hand scraper (Sokoloff 1977:20a).
