PhD Thesis title:  Words for the Heat of Deeds.

Supervisors: Dr Keri Glastonbury  and Dr Ros Smith

Abstract:

Words for the Heat of Deeds is a creative non-fiction writing project. It tracks the early, convict years of the Newcastle Penal Outstation as a series of interconnected story lines. The narrative is a meditation on reclaimed stories, crime, criminality, language, history and class. The accompanying exegesis will explain how this "alltagsgeschichte" (history of everyday life) is constructed using elements of historiography, cultural history, true crime and poetics.
