Programs you would enrol in to study Psychology

The Bachelor of Psychology program provides professional psychological training and practical skills, based on a strong theoretical and empirical foundation. In the final year you will have the opportunity to specialise in a specific area of psychology by designing and conducting a research project, and undertaking advanced Honours level coursework, including theoretical and applied special interest topics. This undergraduate program is relatively unique in Australia in providing a strong foundation in the scientific basis of psychology, and also offering undergraduates the chance to acquire competence in a range of professional skills.

Students who complete the program requirements are currently eligible to apply for provisional registration with the Psychologists Registration Board of the NSW Health Department. By completing the accredited sequence of courses over four years in Psychology, students will also meet the current requirements for Associate Membership of the Australian Psychological Society Ltd (APS).

The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Psychology has two distinct streams of the psychology major, the non-accredited stream within which students undertake a variety of courses which do not make them eligible to complete a fourth year and gain accreditation as a psychologist OR the accredited stream which makes them eligible to apply to apply to complete a fourth year or equivalent and become registered to practice as a psychologist.

During their training as scientists, students gain a range of workplace skills in problem solving, critical analysis, written and oral presentation, teamwork and computing. These qualities are and will continue to be in great demand with employers, and this training will allow graduates to contribute to science and society into the future. In addition, the detailed knowledge and skills that students obtain in their major(s) allows them to access honours studies, higher-level employment, and research.

The Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology Studies is for students with a general interest in Psychology, and for those who see Psychology as complementary to their other majors within the Bachelor of Arts.
