The hardest part about living at Barahineban is pronouncing it. Try this: BA (like a sheep), RAH (like a monster) HIN (as in something is Hinkey, without the key), A (the mark you hope to get) and BAN (what you hope not to get). This is an Awabakal word meaning “a bright place to live”, as are the people who live there as it is the newest of the on campus residences. Bara has 96 studio style apartments which can be configured into single, double (for couples) or twin (for friends) occupancy. Four of these apartments are suitable for people with disabilities.
Take a virtual tour of an Barahineban queen room!
You will be more than comfortable with a split cycle air conditioner, heating system, kitchenette and ensuite. Don’t worry about bringing a bed, wardrobe, desk, chairs, table, mirror, notice board, shelves, television, DVD player, desk lamp or lockable cupboard, as these are all supplied! Bring your own linen and you will feel right at home. You may also wish to bring a stereo, clock, photos, towel and hangers. If you want a twin or double room, you must let us know who you would like to share with! (It is recommended that this is someone that is also interested in sharing with you to save an awkward situation).
Services and Facilities
Head straight to one of the two BBQ facilities on the first floor and the fifth floor to cook and socialise. The Bara common room has a television, pay TV, DVD player (with karaoke equipment!), pool table and table tennis to help you relax and retreat. You can also use this as a study space, with comfortable lounge suites, coffee tables and kitchen facilities provided.

Bara has a very diverse community, so members of residential staff are trained to integrate all residents through support and leadership. Barahineban also tends to have less social functions than other colleges due to the independent style of living.
