Take Leave of Absence
Thinking of taking a break?
We understand that you may need a break from studies at some point during your degree. Often, it can be too much to enrol if there are situations arising in your work or personal life. Whether it is work, family, personal or financial responsibilities, taking a short break from studies may provide you with the time you need to get back on track.
What is a Leave of Absence?
A leave of absence (LOA) is a 6-12 month period in which you are not enrolled in any subject at University. Applying for a leave of absence ensures that your enrolment is not cancelled and after 6-12 months you re-enter university and resume your studies.
In order to apply for a LOA, you must have completed 10 credit points or more of study (i.e. received a passing grade for at least one subject). The application process is completed through MyHub.
For most programs, Student Administration can approve a Leave of Absence for up to two semesters/trimesters. However, this is not the case for all degrees. Undergraduate and Postgraduate coursework students should enquire whether a Leave of Absence is available for their program at the Student Hub.
Should you require a leave of absence for more than 2 study periods, you will need to receive approval from your faculty.
Please note that if you are an international student, you should be aware of your student visa compliance obligations before changing your enrolment. If you are considering changing your enrolment or require additional information please speak with ESOS.
