Welcome to the Counselling Service

The aim of our service is to provide support, guidance and encouragement to you during your time at University.

If you are worried about things or not coping with uni ,we offer students a free and confidential service where you can dicuss any issue whether personal or related to your studies with our professionally trained and friendly psychologists or social workers.

Issues you may need to discuss include - adjustment to University, personal and family difficulties, anxiety, depression, bereavment, relationship problems, situational stress and course-related problems such as examination anxiety, motivation etc.

The Service offers both individual counselling and groups. Individual counselling is available on appointment basis, with some evening appointments available.

In addition to booked appointments, we offer Walk in Clinic at 2 pm on Monday, Wednesday and from Week 6 of semester, on Thursday as well. These appointments cannot be pre-booked and spaces are limited so we advise students to arrive 15 minutes before the clinic opens. If you would like to know more about Walk in Clinic, please call 49215801.

On our website you will also find tipsheets and useful links on many different topics as well as meditation exercises that you can download to help you with relaxation. Also check out our new mobile app page.

The International Student Counsellor Michael Romeo is based at the Callaghan campus of the University at Newcastle. Michael specialises in helping international students. Difficulties encountered by international students include settling into life in Australia, coping with Australian learning styles, dealing with other students and teachers, as well as a range of personal and study issues.
