Emergency Procedures

Emergency procedures at the Callaghan and Ourimbah Campuses centre around the actions of Security Services, Evacuation Wardens (Callaghan and Ourimbah) and First Aid Officers. These groups have absolute authority during evacuation events and their instructions are to be followed.

If the alarm in the building that you are in sounds, you must evacuate that building, follow the directions to the Assembly point and obey the directions of Security, Wardens or Emergency Services.  During any emergency it is important to remember one vital point, that is: "STAY CALM".   Do not leave that area unless advised that you can, and never enter a building where the alarm is sounding.

In all emergency events at Callaghan or Ourimbah, Security Services must be called first (Security Services at Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week) so they can commence actions such as attending the site (all Security Officers are trained in First Aid), getting assistance from the Medical Centre, meeting emergency services, and directing them to the location of the event. Following notification to Security Services, if the event requires it, Emergency Services should be notified on 000 (0 - 000 from internal telephones).

If there are two or more people in attendance, 000 and Security should be called simultaneously. (In the case of a medical emergency where an ambulance is called via ‘000’ to Callaghan or Ourimbah campuses, advise the service that they will be met at the entrance by Security Services and directed to the location.)

Where an emergency event is happening off the Callaghan or Ourimbah Campuses, Emergency Services should be notified as normal by calling 000.

All emergency events should be reported to:

  • Callaghan Security on extension 15888, or
  • Ourimbah Security on extension 84222.
