Project Objectives
At the University Council Strategy meeting in February 2010 it was determined that the five key priorities in the University of Newcastle 2007-2011 Strategic Plan remain sound and valid. As such, the preparation of a plan for the 2011-2015 period would be an exercise of refreshment and refinement rather than involving a wholesale change of strategic direction.
Within this context, the prime purpose of the Project is to update the 2007-2011 Strategic Plan, to reflect changing internal and external circumstances and requirements and emerging strategic opportunities.
The Strategy Refresh Project is being led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Global Relations) through Planning, Quality and Reporting, with Associate Professor Anne Young as the lead coordinator.
Specific outputs of the project will be –
- A Strategic Plan 2011-2015 Summary Document : For public release and general use within the University
- A Strategic Plan 2011-2015 Detailed Document : Consisting of the Summary document and more detailed target and other information required to provide links to institution level budgets and to Faculty and Divisional level plans and budgets.
- A communication strategy for engagement of key internal and external stakeholder groups.
There are also other key outputs, beyond the immediate scope of the Strategy Refresh Project, which will need to be produced as part of the overall planning cycle –
- 2011 Faculty / Divisional Operational plans which include relevant initiatives, activities, objectives and targets through which each Faculty / Division will contribute to the achievement of the overall strategic objectives outlined in the UoN Strategy.
- 2011 Budgets at both UoN and Faculty / Divisional level.
- A refresh of the UoN Strategic Risk Profile.
It will be a key activity within the Strategy Refresh Project to collaborate with and support the stakeholders responsible to develop these key planning outputs.
