Connecting to the Internet on campus

You can access the University's network and services three ways:

  1. connect your laptop, tablet or smartphone via our wireless network
  2. connect your own laptop to an outlet via cable (you will need to bring your own cable)
  3. login to a computer located in one of our general access areas

How to connect

You can connect your device to the University’s wireless network within most buildings and the surrounding areas across our campuses.

If your laptop is not compatible with the University network, access to computer facilities is provided in general access areas on campus.

Step-by-step guides for wireless and wired networks access

If you bring your own computer on campus and connect to the University's wired network, access to the Internet may not be possible until you manually configure your computer settings.

Step-by-step instructions for your operating system

The University is a participating member of the eduroam network, which allows you to use wireless networks at cooperating universities all over the world with your Uni-ID and password.

Access to eduroam is free and it can be accessed from any of our campuses or locations.

Some areas within the Hunter New England (HNE) Local Health District also have eduroam coverage.
Specifically the libraries (for students and staff), the Clinical Skills Unit at John Hunter Hospital (for staff and researchers), and Centre for Mental Health Studies in the McAuley Building, Mater Hospital (for staff and researchers).

Access is also available at the Teaching and Research Unit (TRU) at Gosford Hospital.
