Biography

Has been teaching law to non-law students at the University of Newcastle for twenty years and is currently coordinating convenor for all LEGL Courses offered by Newcastle Law School. His research interests are in the areas of employment law and consumer protection law. Until recently he has been heavily involved in University governance by virtue of his positions as Branch President of the NTEU, elected staff representative on University Council, Academic Senate and Academic Staff Consultative Committee and is currently a member of Newcastle Law School Executive.

Prior to working at the University Bert was in practice for a number of years and has also taught at TAFE and Avondale College. He has been the legal representative on the Faculty of Business and Law's and Avondale College's Human Research Ethics Committee. He has also recently been involved in establishing the new curriculum for Legal Studies in NSW High Schools as an Academic Representative on the Board of Studies New South Wales Board Curriculum Committee.
