Biography

I have been engaged in research since early 2007, following the completion and award of an MA (Music) in 2006. My primary areas of research are:

Music practices in the 19th century,

Music and Society

Australian music,

Social Justice and Gender studies

Music & technology.

Recent research has been on popular entertainment in Newcastle and I have co-authored a book chapter "Popular Entertainment in Newcastle, NSW, 1875-1877" in A World of Popular Entertainment, Scholar's Press, 2012. I have a forthcoming paper: "Newcastle in the 1870s: audience identity, power and cultural ownership" in Crossroads: an Interdisciplinary journal, UQ.

My creative work has been shown in Hobart and Leeds ("Margery's Times: Margery Through the Looking Glass") and New York ("New Adventures of Mark Twain"). I am currently working on a paper on for presentation at Perspectives on Power conference at UQ. A related paper "Reviewing History through Sound: Fact or Fiction?" is forthcoming in the NZMS/MSA conference proceedings, Auckland.

In the area of Teaching and Learning, I am interested in the Transition to University and am currently collaborating on a case study with other Australian Universities
