Environmental geographers are concerned with managing and protecting natural resources. There expertise may cover but not be restricted to water ways and oceans, soil quality, forest conservation and waste disposal. Tasks may include the preparation of environmental impact statements, the carrying out of air and water quality tests and contribution to the formation of related policy and legislation. Accordingly, employment opportunities exist largely in consultative roles in private industry, construction, government departments managing natural resources and the mineral exploration industry.
