Geodetic Surveyors conducts surveys in which the size and shape of the earth are considered as this influences the measurements obtained. A Geodetic Surveyor uses special high accuracy techniques; including precise levelling, electronics distance measurements, astronomical observations and complex computations of signals from global positioning systems (GPS) to monitor movements of the earths crust and locate positions for global mapping. This type of surveying is suited for large areas and long lines and is used to find the location of points used for establishing controls for other surveys.

Geodetic Surveyors perform a range of tasks including collection and analysis of geospatial data, planning projects with essential GPS base coverage for aerial mapping, reporting, preparation of statistical information, searches legal records, and manages information on databases.
