Injury management advisors are typically involved in providing advice and strategies for the management and rehabilitation of workplace injury. They may be hired in house within the OH&S or HR departments of large companies, by rehabilitation consultancies, hospitals and other medical institutions or by insurance companies. Injury management advisors work with other health professionals such as psychologists and physiotherapists to create back to work plans for clients, often overseeing their multidisciplinary treatment. Injury management advisors are also expected to consider the financial costs of treatments and to provide advice which is both advantageous for the client and their employer.
Undergraduate qualifications in disciplines such as psychology, occupational therapy, sports science or physiotherapy are sufficient for entry-level positions in rehabilitation. However management positions and career advancement often benefit from post-graduate qualifications or training across disciplines such as occupational health and safety, human resources and business management.
