Paramedics respond to, assess and manage patients, transport them to a health facility for ongoing care, or arrange alternative referral, treatment or care options. Paramedics can work in a variety of settings, from jobs in Ambulance Services and the Defence Force, through to working for mining companies, manufacturers and construction companies, who all require qualified paramedics. Paramedics also play a key role in the response phase of major incidents and natural disasters.
Employment as a Paramedic will usually require a degree in the area Paramedic Health Science. Alternatively, prior learning and experience in relevant areas such as Nursing and other health-related tertiary qualifications, along with postgraduate studies, can lead to employment as a Paramedic.
