Prosthetics designers are concerned with creating artificial substitutes for a missing body part. Prostheses has evolved from wooden legs and hooks that replaced hands to sophisticated plastic, fibreglass, and metal devices designed to fit limbs amputated at different points. They may have working joints that allows motionand flexibility.

Prosthetics designers focus on adaptability to the human body and functionality, based on the understanding of body anatomy and movement. They also take into account social acceptance based on how much the prosthetic resembles the human body providing satisfaction to the amputee.
