Rehabilitation counsellors aim to facilitate the personal, social and economic independence of individuals with a disability Rehabilitation consultants often complete the following tasks:

  • case management
  • analysing the individual's social, medical, vocational, and psychiatric information
  • provide counseling to disabled or injured individuals
  • utilise the latest injury and disability management resources in order to rehabilitate individuals
  • provide job placement and job development services

Rehabilitation Consultants must have an interest and concern for human wellbeing; have strong analytical and problem solving skills along with excellent oral and written communication skills. Rehabilitation Consultants must also possess confidentiality, discretion and tact when dealing with people.

To become a Rehabilitation Counsellor, individuals often require a degree in Psychology, or are a qualified Rehabilitation Counsellor or Registered Nurse.
