Supply chain managers coordinate all aspects of large scale processes that involve the provision of goods and services to the customer, for example the manufacturing of raw materials in industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, consumer products and energy. They are responsible for attaining resources, organising production and transport schedules, budgeting and report writing. Companies rely on supply chain managers to ensure that their materials and data flow through the system according to plan in order to meet the needs of their clients. Professionals in this field have strong financial management skills, are able to forecast needs, maintain relationships with clients and have an expert understanding of their product and how its is positioned within the supply chain. Undergraduate studies in business with special attention to courses in management, supply chain and logistics prepare graduates well for this role. Postgraduate qualifications and certificate level courses are also relevant.
