TAFE Teachers professionally facilitate classroom learning, assessment of student abilities and knowledge through the use of flexible, competency-based teaching methods, and supervise students enrolled in selected courses. TAFE Teachers are responsible for developing their own course work, identifying at risk students and improving student learning, maintaining class attendance and progress, advise students, promote relevant services to community businesses and establish and maintain effective industry contacts. Other responsibilities may include the reviewing and development of course material, assessment and teaching methods.
TAFE Teachers may have formal tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in a particular industry, or a combination of both. They must hold a minimum of Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) and Certificate IV assessment and delivery competencies from the TAFE Training and Assessment Training Package. They should be innovative, be able to work independently and as part of a team, continue developing their own knowledge in the area in which they are teaching, have effective communication, computer, interpersonal and organisational skills, and have a passion for passing on knowledge to others.
