About Open Foundation
What is Open Foundation?
Open Foundation is the pathway to reach your goals and change your life. It is a tertiary preparation program conducted by the University of Newcastle. Open Foundation has been successfully preparing students to enter university since 1975, and is recognised as a university entry qualification by many universities around Australia. Open Foundation is a recognised qualification for applicants to the NSW Police Force recruitment and training program.
Open Foundation is offered at the Callaghan Campus in Newcastle, at the Ourimbah Campus on the Central Coast or by distance education.
Why Open Foundation?
Open Foundation provides a qualification which you can use to gain entry to University. At the same time Open Foundation helps you to develop the skills needed for successful study at tertiary level. Our experience in teaching tertiary preparation courses over a number of years means that our staff are equipped to help you achieve your educational goals. In Open Foundation you will learn about what it is like to study at University, and will be taught by staff who have experience in teaching at undergraduate level.
Assessment
Assessment in Open Foundation is very similar to the way you will be assessed in your university degree program, so you’ll be ready for success at uni! Assessment might include the completion of written assignments, oral presentations, mid-semester and end of semester examinations, and satisfactory attendance at classes.
You must pass all 40 units studied in order to complete the program.
