Applying to uni after Open Foundation
Open Foundation students apply for admission to university undergraduate degree programs via the NSW Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). You must pass 40 units of study in one calendar year in order to pass Open Foundation and be eligible for university admission.
UAC will assess your application for admission on the basis of your average mark across all of your Open Foundation courses. UAC converts your average mark to an admission ranking.
Selection is competitive and is based on academic performance. It pays to work hard to achieve the highest average score you are capable of, giving you more options for your future.
For more information on the undergraduate admissions application and selection process, visit the UAC website.
Note: Students are NOT sent an ATAR by UAC. Students can request their University admission ranking in person or by telephone from the Foundation Studies office.
What can I study?
Graduates of Open Foundation can apply for admission to any undergraduate degree program at the University of Newcastle, with the exception of the Bachelor of Medicine. The Open Foundation qualification is also recognised as an undergraduate entry qualification by most Australian universities.
