Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I’m a TAFE staff member at Ourimbah. Do I need a NUcard?
A. TAFE staff at Ourimbah and Port Macquarie do not need to obtain a NUcard. If you currently use a swipe card or keys to access buildings or rooms at these campuses, these remain the same until otherwise notified.
Q. The Ourimbah campus uses a different building access system (Chubb). Do I need to get a NUcard as well?
A. Most buildings on the Ourimbah campus will still be accessed using the existing system. New buildings from mid-last year onwards use the new system facilitated by NUcard. You will require a NUcard If you need to access these buildings .
Q. I’m a casual short-term staff member. Is it really necessary for me to have a NUcard?
A. Yes. All staff members, regardless of category or employment length, must have a NUcard. NUcard identifies you as a staff member while on campus, plus serves as your library card and building access card.
Q. I live in another city but access the library remotely. Will my library privileges be affected?
A. Your library privileges remain the same as does the way you access the library. If you ever do come on campus, you can obtain a card then if you wish.
Q. I have just obtained my NUcard but I can’t open my office door. Shouldn’t my existing access rights have been transferred automatically?
A. Your access rights should be automatically transferred, but in the rare case they have not, please contact Facilities Management on x16500. New access requests need to be placed through the online tool Maximo.
Q. I’m concerned about people being able to see my photo and staff details. Do I have to wear my NUcard visibly?
A. No, you do not have to wear it on a lanyard or clip as long as you keep the card on your person and are willing to show it on request. However, displaying it is a valuable way for other staff and students to identify you as a staff member.
Q. What if my NUcard is lost or damaged?
A. Lost, damaged or stolen cards can be quickly replaced. Inform Facilities Management as soon as possible and the card will be deactivated immediately. You can get a new card with original access rights as soon as you can attend an ID Card Production Station.
