Subject to eligibility, you can access the University's Parental Leave entitlements following the birth (or placement through adoption or fostering) of your child.
To check if you are eligible, consult your Enterprise Agreement and speak with your Human Resource Officer.
Separate to the University's provisions, the Australian Government's Paid Parental Leave Scheme provides you with the option of receiving the Baby Bonus, or 18 weeks Paid Parental Leave. This scheme runs in tandem with the University scheme, but is administered by the Department of Human Services at www.humanservices.gov.au.
It is your responsibility to apply at least 12 weeks before the expected date of birth or placement of your child.
No-one within the university can advise you about which option to select. We strongly encourage you to seek independent financial advice regarding the tax implications for any scenario you are considering.
