Resigning from the University

Notification of Resignation

To notify the University of your intention to resign or retire a Notification of Resignation Form (PDF) is to be completed by you(academic or professional staff) and endorsed by the Head of your Organisational Unit. The notification should then be forwarded, as a matter of urgency, to your Human Resource Officer in Human Resource Services, to ensure overpayment of salary is avoided,

Upon receipt of the notification, Human Resource Services will send you an acknowledgement letter as well as details of any final payments.

Note: You are not required to submit a separate letter of resignation, however you may wish to attach a letter to the completed notification.

Resignation Notice Periods

Academic Staff
A staff member, other than a casual staff member, who intends to resign from their employment with the University is required to give sufficient notice so as to complete their existing teaching commitments. The University will not unreasonably refuse a request by a staff member to reduce the period of notice.

A casual staff member engaged on a sessional basis who intends to resign from their employment with the University, is required to give 2 weeks notice of resignation, unless a lesser period is agreed with the University.

Professional Staff
A staff member, other than a casual staff member, who intends to resign from their employment with the University, must give at least 2 weeks written notice of the date of termination or be subject to the forfeiture of 2 weeks pay or part thereof. However, where requested by a staff member, the University may reduce the required period of notice.

Teachers
A staff member, other than a casual staff member, who intends to resign from their employment with the University, is required to give sufficient notice so as to complete their existing teaching commitments. The University will not unreasonably refuse a request by a staff member to reduce the period of notice.

Non-Tertiary Music Teachers or casual staff members engaged for 12 weeks or more will give 2 weeks notice of resignation unless a lesser period is mutually agreed with the Director.
