Environmental Sustainability at UoN

As part of our vision to be recognised as a University of environmental distinction, the University is committed to engaging in sound environmental practice and continually improving its environmental sustainability performance. Our commitment is delivered through three thematic areas:

Campus management practices

Sustainability on our campuses, including energy and carbon emissions, water, waste, transport, landscape and biodiversity, and compliance.

Research initiatives

Information about University research and innovation in sustainability issues such as energy and biodiversity.

Teaching and learning outcomes

Equipping our graduates with the skills to tackle the sustainability issues of tomorrow through a range of sustainability-focused courses.

Stakeholder engagement and communication

Making cleaner coal a reality
Few challenges have captured the attention and budgets of the world's major industries and governments quite like the drive to produce clean, sustainable energy. Joining the international push to find better ways to generate power without sacrificing the environment, the University of Newcastle's Professor Terry Wall and Professor Behdad Moghtaderi are working with colleagues across Australia, Asia and Europe.
