Our Uni
Access to information
What is GIPA?
GIPA is the acronym for Government Information (Public Access) which is underpinned by the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act). The objective of the Act is to open government information to the public by:
- encouraging and authorising the proactive public release of government information by agencies
- giving members of the public an enforceable right to access government information
- providing access to government information unless there is an overriding public interest against disclosure.
The Act sets out four pathways to accessing government information:
- mandatory release of certain government information (view our open access information)
- proactive release of government information
- informal release of government information
- formal access applications for information
How to access the University's information:
- search our web site or type your search question in AskUoN
- contact the relevant college or division to see if the information is already available
- view our open access information. This includes information we are required to publish under the GIPA Act such as our agency information guide, our disclosure log, and our register of University contracts.
- visit our Newsroom or email our Media and Public Relations team if you are enquiring from a media organisation.
Still searching?
Contact our GIPA office if you need help to access UoN information. We will tell you if the information you are requesting:

- can be made available on informal request, or
- requires you to submit a formal request under the GIPA Act.
