Literacy Apps Earn Nomination for Top Award
The collaborative efforts of 2016 Equity Fellow, Dr Erica Southgate of the School of Education and Dr Shamus Smith of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, have put them in the running to take out this year's Australia and New Zealand Internet Awards (ANZIAs).
Their work on developing a series of game-based literacy apps designed for adult learners to improve their language skills has been nominated as one of the 26 finalists selected out of a record number of entries. The Literacy Apps Project: Serious Games and Information Apps to improve Adult Literacy is being considered in the area of Innovation, one of six overall categories.
The nomination represents significant recognition of the success of the project by ANZIA, a chief industry body. Each year the award acknowledges excellence in the field of online resources, websites, real-world projects and products created in Australia and New Zealand?
Winners (and Highly Commended) for each category will be announced at the Gala dinner, to be held in Melbourne on 30 August.
