Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (NSW)

Establishment

Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (The Network) manages the health care of more than 30,000 patients in custody within secure settings across NSW. We provide 800,000 occasions of service to adults and young people in contact with the forensic mental health and criminal justice systems. Our teams provide multidisciplinary services including primary care, mental health, drug and alcohol, population health, women’s health, midwifery care, oral health, Aboriginal health, youth health, and a range of allied health services. The primary care nurse workforce provides first line primary care, referring patients for further review by sessional visiting medical officers or specialty nurses working in drug and alcohol, mental health, population health, women’s health and midwifery streams. This scholarship underscores the Network’s commitment to the continuing education of our staff and will provide a career pathway for our nurses who wish to specialise in Custodial Health.

Eligible programs for this scholarship include:

  • Master of Mental Health Nursing – Custodial Health Specialisation
  • Master of Nursing – Custodial Health Specialisation
  • Graduate Certificate in Custodial Health, and
  • Master of Custodial Health (teach-out).

Applicable to postgraduate, Justice Health, Custodial Health.


Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be enrolled in an eligible Custodial Health postgraduate degree or specialisation (see conditions).
  • Be a current permanent employee of Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (NSW).
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse working in Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (NSW).
  • Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Required Documentation

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

  • A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
  • Provide a Statement of Service to evidence for employment with Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (NSW) of one year or more & optional supporting statements from peers or managers, participation in quality improvement and/or research.

Benefit

The scholarship provides a total benefit of $5000 which will be paid as two lump sums of $2,500 after Semester census dates.

Payments are typically received 2–3 weeks after the semester census date, or 2–3 weeks after you accept your offer if the census date has already passed.


Selection

Selection is a competitive process and will be based on assessment of the scholarship application and any required supporting documents, with reference to the eligibility criteria.

Available scholarships will be allocated evenly to the eligible programs where possible..
